Get inspired!1800 miles in 17 days
In late 2007 I made a New Year resolution to do
"Century a Month" in 2008. Century in this case refers to a bike ride
that is around 100 miles long. In my case I wanted to be at least 100
miles in one day. So I started in January and continued all the way to
December of 2008. Most months I did one Century ride, but some months I
did several. In October for example I did three in four different
countries (USA, Slovenia, Italy, and Croatia). The last ride was on
Saturday when I rode from San Jose to Saratoga, Gilroy, up Mt Madonna,
and back to San Jose. The longest ride was in August when a coworker and
I did 180 miles around vineyards of Napa. I did several other rides with
my coworkers and friends. On some of the rides I took camera with me and
took a bunch of photos, so you should be able to find a bunch of photos
in my gallery. Here is a web page with the list of all the rides:http://legoandy.com/Words/bike-rides-2008 I am already
planning my goal for the year 2009. Currently the goal consists of
continuation of the "Century a Month" and in addition try to achieve a
"California Triple Crown". "Triple Crown" refers to three
double-centuries (200 mile bike events each). Here is the web page about
the California Triple Crown:http://www.caltriplecrown.com span> Couple of
things about preparations for these rides. Most people say you should
train, eat properly, etc. I don't. My training consists of... well,
biking. I bike to work and around town. I put about 80 miles on the bike
during the commute and usually at least 40 miles during the weekend. But
I don't consider that to be "training". I consider it fun way to avoid
traffic and to enjoy the outdoors. I hope this will inspire you to challenge yourself. Set yourself a goal. Make sure it is hard, but achievable. Then go for it and make it happen. Happy Holidays!!
